Outlands College of Heralds

27 December 2006

From the Office of Rampart Herald
Furukusu Masahide (John Newton)
rampart@outlandsheralds.org

Unto Elisabeth de Rossingol, Laurel Queen of Arms, Margaret MacDuibhshithe, Pelican Queen of Arms, Jean Marie Lacroix, Wreath Queen of Arms, and the College of Arms, upon this 27th day of December 2006, A.S. XL, does Furukusu Masahide, Rampart Herald, send greetings.

Unless otherwise noted, submitters accept all changes, desire a name with the common sense gender, and have no requests for authenticity. My deepest gratitude to those who took time to send internal commentary: Cnute, Geffroi le crieur, and Gwain of Miskbridge (Green Anchor Herald) and the NE Calontir commenting group.

It is our intent to register the following items:

  1. Anna Katherine von Telgte. New Name and New Device. Vert, a bear rampant between three mullets argent.

Gender: Female. Submitter cares most about the language/culture of the name, cited as 13th-15th Century German. No major changes accepted.
[Anna]: "Medieval German Given Names from Silesia" by Talan Gwynek (http://www.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/names/bahlow_v.htm), documents [Anna] in this spelling to 1383.
[Katherine]: "Medieval German Given Names from Silesia" by Talan Gwynek, documents [Katherine] in this spelling to 1366.
[Anna Katherine] is also the submitter's legal name; driver's license copy included .
[Telgte] is a German town in Westphalia near Münster. It received town privileges in 1238, and has been a Pilgrimage destination since the 14th Century. It was a member of the Hanseatic League dating to 1470. Sources: Wikipedia entry on Telgte (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telgte); UCESM - site of the European Catholic Church (http://www.ucesm.net/ucesm_en/marie_%20en_europe_1_en.htm), in discussing the veneration of Mary, states: "Another ancient Marian 'Mecca' in Germany is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sorrows in Telgte near Münster (Westphalia): 14th century." The town is mentioned on the Hanse Portal of Gdansk (Hanseatic League) website, in a chronology of the Hanseatic League (http://www.hanza.gdansk.pl/kronika_a.html).

  2. Heinricus Landœse. New Device. Sable, in pale two swords inverted in saltire proper and a stag couchant argent.

The name was registered in March 2005.

Blazon changed from {Sable, in pale two swords in saltire and a stag couchant argent} to {Sable, in pale two swords inverted in saltire proper and a stag couchant argent} to account for the orientation and tincture of the swords.

Thus ends my Letter of Intent.

In service and duty,

Furukusu Masahide
Rampart Herald
