castle@outlandsheralds.org

Unto the Outlands College of Heralds, our respected friends and colleagues who give freely of their time to provide commentary, and all others who come by these letters, on this10th day of January, A.S. XLV (2011 CE), does Lady Tatiana Moskovskaia send greetings on behalf of Sheik Omar Mohammud Mirzazadeh, White Stag Principal Herald.

It would assist Castle Herald greatly in the future if you would e-mail a copy of the documentation summary for name submissions along with the paper copies;  It saves having to re-type everything again.  Also, please be sure that you include dates of registration and return for armory for previously registered names and resubmissions of any kind.  If Castle can't find where an item was returned, it may be pended until the information is provided or payment is made for a new submission.

Here follows the Kingdom of the Outlands Letter of Presentation for January 2011. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome. Errors found herein are my sole responsibility.  Anyone may comment upon the items found herein, and e-mail commentary to the herald's commentary list is encouraged. Please have comments on items contained herein to Rampart Herald by February 15, 2011, for the decision meeting tentatively scheduled for February 16, 2011.  As a reminder, the College of Arms requests commentary on all items, including appeals.

2. Andrew von Otelingen - New badge: Quaterly argent and azure, a bordure counterchanged

(Unser Hafen) Submitter's name was registered in May 2009, via Outlands http://heraldry.sca.org/heraldry/loar/2009/05/09-05lar.html

3. Anzelm Kowalski - Device resubmission (Kingdom): Gules, a key palewise, wards to sinister base Or, on a chief argent a greyhound courant to

    sinister sable.

(Blaiddwyn) Submitter's name was forwarded to Laurel on September 2010 LoI http://rampart.outlandsheralds.org/2010-08-lop/1009-loi.html

Submitter's previous device Vert, a chevron between two greyhounds passant respectant and a ring of three keys Or  was returned on September

2010 LoR http://rampart.outlandsheralds.org/2010-08-lop/1009-lor.html  for the following reasons: conflict with Penelopee of the Quill (9/95, East):

Vert, a chevron between two hawk's bells and a quill pen Or. Because there are three types of charges directly on the field, this device does not

qualify as simple armory under RFS X.2. Therefore, the changes to type of all of the secondary charges counts at most as 1 CD, resulting in

     conflict.

4. Nicolaao Machado - New Name.

(Bofharrach) Gender: Male. Submitter cares most about meaning and sound (undefined). No major changes accepted.

[Nicolaao] - Portuguese names from 16thc, by Juliana de Luna http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/juliana/portugal16/portugal16data.html

   1531 Nicollao Jusarte (Nicolaao...)

[Machado] - Portuguese names from 16thc, by Juliana de Luna http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/juliana/portugal16/portugal16data.html

   1536 Pero Machado.

Also  found in Portuguese Surnames from Lisbon, 1565, by Aryanhwy merch Catmael http://www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/portuguese/sur1565.html

Machado, "an axe, hatchet", 15 occurences.

5. Safiyya bint Faris al-Dani - Device resubmission (Kingdom): Paly Or and azure a lion's head erased sable.

(Bofharrach)  Submitter's name was registered in September 2010 via Outlands http://heraldry.sca.org/heraldry/loar/2010/09/10-09lar.html

Submitter's previous device: Sable, an estoc and paintbrush crossed in saltire Or, a compass rose Or above a ford proper. Was returned on June

2010 LoR http://rampart.outlandsheralds.org/2010-05-lop/1006-lor.html for the following reasons: Complexity issues. As drawn, the topmost charge

is not a compass rose (lacking the fleur-de-lis indicating north). Also, given the relative sizes of the charges, we must find that the primary charge

group consists of the compass star within and conjoined to an annulet, an estoc, and a paintbrush. this violates the rule that three or more charges

should not be used in the same charge group (RFS VIII.1.a). Finally, the design borders on the overall complexity limit of 8 tinctures/charges,

currently having 4 of each. Submitter is encouraged to simplify the design for resubmission.

Thus ends the January 2011 Letter of Presentation.

Yours in Service
