On behalf of Lady Sorcha MacLeod, White Stag Principal Herald, I present the following items for your consideration:

(Unless otherwise noted, all submittors will accept all changes, have no authenticity requests, and wish a name with the "common sense" gender, based on the submitted name.)

  1. Brighid Óg inghean Néill. (al-Barran) Resubmitted Device (Laurel). Azure, a chevron inverted argent between three roses Or barbed vert.
Her name was registered on the February 2004 LOAR and her previous device submission, Azure, a chevron inverted argent between three Luther roses Or barbed vert, for lack of documentation of the stylistic issues inherent in Luther roses (excessive layering, and color on color) as being widespread or common enough for either a regional or general exception and Laurel also noted the possibility of pretension, since Luther roses in period were so strongly associated with Martin Luther. This resubmission addresses the issue by redrawing them as regular heraldic roses.
  2. Cerelle de Seyntlegger. (al-Barran) New Name.
Cerelle is her middle name and a copy of her birth certificate showing such was provided. de Seyntlegger was found in Irish Names and Surnames by Woulfe, on page 275 under the header de Sayigeir (sp?).
    She has no requests.
  3. Dubheasa Eachinse. Resubmitted Device (Kingdom). Per pale argent and Or, a chevron inverted rompu and in chief a horse courant sable.
Her name was registered in December of 1997 and her previous device submission, Or, three horses passant in annulo gules, vert, and purpure, a bordure cloverleaf (trefly counter-trefly) sable, was returned at Kingdom in June 1997. This is obviously a complete redesign.
  4. Eachna Minogue. (Caer Galen) New Name and New Device. Azure, on a plate an oak tree proper.
Eachna is found in Irish Names by O' Corrain and Maguire (2nd ed.) on page 83 under the header Echna, Echnach, Eachna". Minogue is found in Surnames of Ireland by MacLysaght (5th ed) on page 217 under the header (O) Minogue. It is also her legal last name and a copy of her drivers licence was provided.
She will not accept major changes, cares most about the (unspecified) sound and language/culture, and is interested in authenticity for "12th-14th Cent. Irish" time period and language/culture.
  5. Elsbeth the Seer. (al-Barran) New Name.
No documentation was provided. It'd be appreciated if the local herald would provide some documentation commentary.
She will not allow major or minor changes, cares most about the sound, is interested in authenticity for "1530s" time period. She also will not allow the creation of a holding name, but there is no device to go with it, so this is irrelevant.
  6. Fiorella von Sachsenhausen. New Name.
Fiorella is found in de Felice's dizionario dei nomi italiani on pages 171 and 172 under the header of Fiore. I'm not able to read the italian well enough to be sure of what it says about that name. Backup docs dating this to period would be nice. Sachsenhausen is a constructed byname using Bahlow's German Names (Edda Gentry transl.) from Sachs(e) on pages 429 and 430 and Hause on page 199. This is also the byname registered to her legal husband, who registered Günther von Sachsenhausen in January 1997.
    She has no requests.
  7. Fontaine dans Sable, Barony of. (Fontaine) Resubmitted Order Name (kingdom). Order of the Golden Palm.
This follows the "Color+ Thing" pattern of Order Names as found in Project Ordensnamen (http://www.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/names/order/). Similar examples given are Order of the Golden Buckle, Order of the Golden Apple, and Order of the Golden Fleece, all of which use the color "Golden" (clearly dating that word to our period). Additionally, the word 'palm' is found in the Oxford English Dictionary with dated citations all throughout our period referring to both the whole palm plant and to individal branches of the plant.
Previously submitted as Order of the Golden Frond, it was returned by Rampart in November 2003 because the word 'frond' could only be found post-period when referring to portions of the palm plant.
If this is registered, they still have two Order Name resubmissions that they can use.
  8. Helga Tynker. (Drygestan) New Name and New Device. Vert, a cauldron Or and on a chief argent five hearts gules.
Helga is found in "Viking Names Found in the Landnámabók" by Aryanhwy merch Catmael (http://www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/landnamabok.html), in this spelling. Any leads on it as an English name would be nice to have. Tynker is found in "An Index to the 1332 Lay Subsidy Rolls for Lincolnshire, England" by Mari Elspeth nic Bryan (at: http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/mari/LincLSR/ ) in the section of Full Names sorted by byname under "T", which lists "Thomas Tynker". Tinker is also a header form in Reaney and Wilson's Dictionary of English Surnames, with spellings dated to the 1240's.
She cares most about the sound.
  9. Óengus Minogue. (Caer Galen) New Name and New Device. Vert, a sheaf of five stalks of wheat and a bordure wavy Or.
Óengus is found in Irish Names by O' Corrain and Maguire (2nd ed.) on page 148 under the header Óengus, Aengus, Aonghus. Minogue is found in Surnames of Ireland by MacLysaght (5th ed) on page 217 under the header (O) Minogue. It is also his legal last name and a copy of his drivers licence was provided.
He will not accept major changes, cares most about the (unspecified) sound and language/culture, and is interested in authenticity for "12th-14th Cent. Irish" time period and language/culture.
  10. Rose Mary Meddyg. (al-Barran) New Name and New Device. Vert, in pale a compass star elongated to base argent and a dexter hand Or.
Both Rose and Mary are found in "Women's Names in the First Half of 16th Century Wales" by Tangwystyl verch Morgant Glasvryn (http://www.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/names/welshfem16/welshWomen16.html). Meddyg is found in Compleat Anachronist #66 "A Welsh Miscellany" in the article on names by Tangwystyl verch Morgant Glasvryn meaning "doctor".
    She has no requests.
