From your Æðeluulf, find these words addressed to Marie, White Stag Principal Herald. It is the hope that well wishes find all upon the celebration of Saint Humbert of Savoy. I would like to thank whole-heartedly all the members of the Commentary groups for providing commentary this month.
The following items have been sent to Laurel for final determination:
- Agnes de Lanvallei - New Badge. (Fieldless) A sheep azure passant to sinister.
- al-Barran, Barony of - Appeal of Kingdom Return of Order Name. Order of the Bronze Bell
- Andrew von Otelingen - New Name & New Device. Argent, on a pile azure, a fleur-de-lis argent.
- Caoilinn ingen Chaoimhin Ó Taidc - Resub Name (originally submitted as [Caoilinn inghean Caoimhin Ó Tighe], corrected for consistent lentition; See RETURNS for device)
- Elena of Glęstingeberia - New Name (originally submitted as [Elena of Glastonbury], the locative was changed to used a dated spelling; See RETURNS for device)
- Halvar Half-Hand - Resub Name (See RETURNS for device)
- Jeanne Dyfrgi - New Device. Gules, a greyhound courant to sinister within a bordure Or
- Katelin de Irlande - New Device. Per bend sinister azure and vert, a Celtic cross and a chief argent.
- Katelin de Irlande - New Badge. (Fieldless) A Celtic cross per pale azure and vert
- Mary Champernowne - New Name
- Milesha Kulikova - New Device. Purpure, a natural dolphin embowed, and on a chief embattled Or, four mullets of four gules
- Ramón the Chronologer - New Badge. (Fieldless) An hourglass azure on a compass star argent
The following items were returned for further work
- Caoilinn inghean Caoimhin Ó Tighe - Device Resubmission. Per pale purpure and argent, a Greek symbol 1000 voided, counterchanged.
This device was originally returned for using an abstract symbol (The Greek character for 1000, commonly recognised as an infinity symbol). The device was resubmitted with no changes, so still falls afoul of this precedent and must be returned again.
- Cillene mac Congalaigh - Device Resubmission. Azure, a fret argent, a lymphad overall sable.
The sable overall charge is 'barely overall' the argent fret, and therefore has poor contrast with the azure field. The submitter is reminded that the overall charge must have good contrast with the field, not any of the charges it surmounts as 'overall'
- Elena of Glastonbury - New Device. Sable, a rapier inverted argent entwined of two roses gules, slipped and leaved vert, a bordure gules.
This device has been returned for contrast issues: there is poor contrast between the flowers and the field (colour-on-colour), and the stems are very thin. Additionally, the silvery-colour used to paint the rapier is unneeded, white is more easily recognised and the silvery-colour is a very dark grey which faded into the field. Artistic notes: the term 'garden rose' is unnecessary, a Rose is still a Rose; proper colouring for rapiers and swords is "argent, a hilt Or."
- Halvar Half-Hand - Device Resubmission. Per saltire gules and sable, on a plate a crossbow vert.
Returned for conflict with Per pale sable and vert, on a plate a leaf vert. (Artemius of Hunters Home [2/07, Ęthelmearc]). The change in the field grants a single Clear Difference; however there is not a Clear Difference between the tertiary charges, so this ends up conflicting.
- Justin Case - New Alternate Name for [Conrad von Zollern].
Returned for conflict with [Justin Case], registered to Arontius of Bygelswade in December of 1998 (via An Tir).
- Ram's Keep, College of - Device Resubmission. Vert, a Ram's head cabossed argent, within a bordure embattled Or, and in chief a laurel wreath argent.
Per the Pictorial Dictionary, the proper depiction of a laurel wreath is of a near-complete circle between whose points no charges are allowed to protrude. The charge provided by the college is akin more to a laurel branch, than anything else. Addtionally, there is no reference to the name "Ram's Keep, College of" ever having been resbumitted since it was returned at Kingom in May 2004. Individuals are not allowed to register branch armoury, even if they are officers of an incipient branch. Final artistic note: the silvery-colour used to paint the charges is unneeded, white is more easily recognised and the silvery-colour is a very dark grey which can be misinterpreted.
Inscribed this XXXIth day of January, in the year of grace MMIX, being the XLIII year of the Society.
