The following items were sent on to Laurel for final determination:
The following items were returned for further work:
Name accepted on July 2001, Calontir.
Return for conflict with Victoria MacKinnon Or, two cats combatant sable maintaining a heart gules enflamed to chief, on a chief sable three crosses flory Or. Single CD for multiple changes to the tertiary charges.
Name registered November 1999, Artemisia.
Commenters state "This isn't a point pointed because it reaches the fess line. It isn't a per chevron field division or a pile inverted because it doesn't extend above the fess line."
Returned for violating Rfs VII.7.a - Identifiability of elements.
Commenters also indicated that the wings on the unicorns appear to be bat wings, which must be explicitly blazoned.
Name registered December 1998, Outlands. His name was registered in December of 1998 (via the Outlands).
Original device submission of Quarterly lozengy argent and sable counterchanged was returned by Laurel in December of 1998. The text of the decision is as follows:
Quarterly lozengy argent and sable and lozengy sable and argent. His previous device, Quarterly lozengy argent and sable counterchanged, was returned in December 1998 for conflict with Bavaria Lozengy bendwise argent and azure., Monaco Lozengy argent and gules., and the Dukes of Teck Lozengy bendwise (or bendwise sinister) sable and Or. The counterchanging does not make any difference to what sort of field it is in this case. We give no CD for partition between any of the lozengy or paly-bendy variants, only between them and checky; thus the only CD is for tincture of half the field. Even if there had been no conflict this would have been returned for violating RfS VIII.3 for excessive counterchanging, and for violating RfS VIII.4 on op-art.
This new device has not addressed the problems noted above, and several commenters indicated they could not determine the difference between this design and the previous one.
Returned for violations of Rfs VII.7.b - Reconstructability, Rfs VIII.3 - Identifiability, and Rfs VII.4.d - Modern style (op-art).
Device returned for violating Rfs VIII.2.b.i - field contrast. The chief and field are both colors.
One commenter suggested that this may be registerable under Rfs VIII.6.b for regional style, but that appropriate documentation must be attached. An alternate solution would be to swap the tincture of the chief and fleurs-de-lys.
Returned for violation of Rfs VIII.7.a - Identifiability of the otter, and Rfs VIII.4.c - Natural depiction.
Name registered February 2005, Outlands.
The mascle is the visual equivalent of a maintained charge. This is being returned for conflict with Laura la Lavendere (Sable, a cross bottony Or between three roses argent barbed and seeded proper), with a single CD for the change of the roses.
Submitter will not accept major changes to name, cares most about the sound of the name and the gender is female.
Rowena is a literary name from Monmouth's History of the Kings of Britain, and although it was not used as a given name in period, it has been ruled SCA compatible.
Kolhammer is found under "Kohlhamraer" in Brechenmacher, dated to 1573.
Commenters state that use of SCA compatible element is a weirdness. Combination of English (as the documentation is based on the History of the Kings of Britain) and German in the same name is also a weirdness per the 11/01 LoAR. This is being returned for two weirdnesses. The device appears clear, but without a name to send it forward with, it must be returned.
Name and device were returned on November 2004 LoR.
I do not show a current submission for name at either Kingdom or Laurel level. Returned for lack of name.
Thus ends my Letter of Response.
In service and duty,
Furukusu Masahide, Rampart Herald
