UNTO Shauna of Carrick Point, Laurel Queen of Arms, Margaret
MacDuibhshithe, Pelican Queen of Arms, Evan da Colleuro, Wreath King of Arms,
and the College of Arms, upon this 27th day of July, A.S. XXXVII (2004 CE),
DOES Lady Alia Marie de Blois, Rampart Herald, send greetings
and fond thoughts.
On behalf of Lady Sorcha MacLeod, White Stag Principal Herald,
I offer the following submissions for registration:
Unless otherwise specified, all changes are allowed by the submitter.
- Blaiddwyn, College of. New Badge. Gules, three wolves'
teeth issuant from sinister and a trefoil argent.
The group name was registered in March of 1994. This badge is intended for
use as the Champions' ensign (any type of champion - A&S, heavy, light,
bardic, etc.).
- Blaiddwyn, College of. New Badge. Quarterly gules and
argent, two open books argent.
The group name was registered in March of 1994. This badge is intended for
use as the Populace badge..
- Christina McCarty. New Badge. Argent, in pale a butterfly
and a quill of thread within a bordure engrailed sable.
Her name was registered in February of 1998. This depiction of a quill of
thread is found in Parker's A Glossary of Terms used in Heraldry on
page 226 under the header Embroiderer's Broaches, Trundles, and Quill.
- Darius of Jaxartes. Change of Registered Device Resubmission.
Per pale sable and argent, a pale counter-compony sable and argent fimbriated
in sinister chief a bull's head cabossed gules, crowned of a coronet sable.
His previous Change of Registered Device submission, Per pale sable and
argent, a pale counter-compony sable and argent fimbriated in sinister chief
a bull's head cabossed gules, maintaining from the dexter horn a coronet
sable, was returned by Laurel in February 2004, because of issues with
the odd position of the coronet. This resubmission (the 'alternate emblazon'
on the LoI from last time) addresses this by having the bull's head crowned
in the standard fashion.
- Fína ingen Chionaith. New Device. Gules, a cross
sable fimbriated argent between in bend two needles bendwise sinister Or
threaded and in bend sinister two hands appaumy argent.
Her name (submitted as Fína Mac Kenna and changed by Rampart to Fína
ingen Chionaith) was sent to Laurel on the February 2004 Letter of Intent.
- Kathryn of Iveragh. Change of Registered Device Resubmission.
Per bend sinister wavy sable and gules, on a bend sinister wavy argent a
ducal coronet bendwise sable and in dexter chief three passion nails inverted
bendwise in bend sinister gules enflamed Or.
Her name was registered at some point (not even the O&A knows). Her current
device was registered in May 1982, and the augmentation registered in September
1983 (last reblazoned in January 1985). The particular enflaming of the passion
nails is grandparented to her.She is now a duchess (May 10th, 2003) and thus
entitled to the ducal coronet. This is the Outlands' standard lozenge form.
This change was returned by Laurel on the February 2004 LOAR, for administrative
reasons, particularly, that changes to an augmented device require two actions,
one changing the unaugmented device, and one changing the augmented one.
If the augmented device cannot be registered she would prefer to withdraw
the change to the unaugmented one.
If this item is registered, she would like to keep her old arms as a badge.
If registering this would put her over her limit for armorial items, she
would like to have her badge, Sable, three barrulets wavy or, overall
a pellet fimbriated or, surmounted by a torteau, thereon a Norse suncross
or, released.
- Kathryn of Iveragh. Change of Registered Augmented Device.
Per bend sinister wavy sable and gules, on bend sinister wavy argent, a ducal
coronet bendwise sable and in dexter chief three passion nails inverted bendwise
in bend sinister gules enflamed Or, and as an augmentation an inescutcheon
of azure, a demi-sun issuant from base Or within a bordure argent.
Her name was registered at some point (not even the O&A knows). Her current
device was registered in May 1982, and the augmentation registered in September
1983 (last reblazoned in January 1985). The particular enflaming of the passion
nails is grandparented to her. She is now a duchess (May 10th, 2003) and
thus entitled to the ducal coronet. This is the Outlands' standard lozenge
form.

- Safwah al-Zarqah al-Sabbiyah. New Name and New Device.
Or, a sinister gore sable and in dexter chief a cross of lozenges vert.
Safwah is found in "Period Arabic Names and Naming Practices" by
Master Da'ud ibn Auda (http://www.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/names/arabic-naming2.htm)
where it is listed as a feminine ism. al-Zarqa is found in the same
source as a feminine cognomen meaning "the blue-eyed". al-Sabbiyah
the feminine from of al-Sabi, documented currently from an email from Master
Da'ud which says that is a tribal name found in Dodge "The Fihrist of
al-Nadim", a 10th Century source, volume II, p 1085, in the name of:
Abu Ishaq Ibrahin ibn al-Sabi. "He was a secretary and poet, who became chief
of the secretariat of 'Izz al-Dawlah in 960. He was a Sabi from Harran. He
was arrested in 978 and died about fifteen years later." Scans of the
appropriate pages were provided.
She cares most about the "Arabic/Tribal" language/culture. Submitted as Safwah
al-Basimah al-Zarqah al-Sabbiyah, al-Basimah was dropped because
no documentation was provided, nor could any be found for that name element
in period.
I count
one new name, two new devices, three new badges, one change of registered augmented
device for a total of seven items requiring payment to Laurel in the amount
of $28 (to be sent separately). There are also two change of registered device
resubmissions, which are gratis.
Serving Crown and Laurel, I am,
Her Ladyship Alia Marie de Blois,
