Unto the esteemed Elisabeth de Rossingol, Laurel Queen of Arms, Margaret MacDuibhshithe, Pelican Queen of Arms, Jean Marie Lacroix, Wreath Queen of Arms, and the College of Arms of the Society for Creative Anachronisim, does Æðeluulf Munec, Rampart Herald, send well wishes this day. I write you concerning the March Letter of Intent for the Kingdom of the Outlands. It is our intent to register the following items:

  1. Ælfwynne othe Wode - New Name
    Submitter desires a feminine name.
    Client requests authenticity for 1050 CE (no location specified).
    Client requests authenticity for 1050 CE (no location specified).
    Meaning (a traveling, free aire/free-spirited) most important.

    Originally submitted as "Ælfwynne of the Wood" it was changed at kingdom to keep the languages internally consistent. Commentary noted that it would be hard to have a name that conveys the submitters' desired meaning, so it was decided to keep the elements the client requested and just Anglicise them to the same 'dialect' of English.

    [Offyewode] - Reaney OES, p49. s.n. references a "John Offyewode" and "William othe Wode" both dated to 1374.

  2. Séamus MacRae - Resub Name

    Submitter desires a masculine name.

    The first submission, Séamus MacDhùghaill, was returned on the October 2006 LoAR for conflict with Seamus mac Dubhghaill, registered June 2006.

    [Séamus] - "Index of Names in Irish Annals" by Mari Elspeth nic Bryan2; this source lists numerous variants from 1398 through 1608, but none of them are the submitted variant. O&CM p163 s.n. Séamus is listed as being "common among the Anglo-Norman settlers in Ireland and was adopted by the native Irish", but not dated.

    [Macrae] - Reany & Wilson, p293 s.n. Macrae, McRaith, etc. "Patric M'Re", and "M'Rey" dated to 1376. Additionally from the Feb02 LoAR3 for "Evelyn Macrae": Black (s.n. Macrae) dates numerous other spellings to period, but none have 'ae' in the second syllable. However, since Mackcrae is dated to 1650 (just at the end of the "gray area") in this entry, the submitted spelling is registerable.
