UNTO François la Flamme, Laurel King of Arms, Mari Elspeth nic Bryan, Pelican Queen of Arms, Zenobia Naphtali, Wreath Queen of Arms, Daniel de Lincoln, Laurel clerk, and the College of Arms upon this 25th day of August, A.S. XXXVIII (2003 CE), does Lady Alia Marie de Blois, Rampart Herald, send greetings.

On behalf of Mistress Tatiana Pavlovna Sokolova, White Stag Principal Herald, I offer the following submissions for registration. Unless marked otherwise, all submittors will accept all changes and have no authenticity requests.

1. Briana Bronwen Du Bois. New Name.
   Briana is documented using the Cover Letter of the December 2001 LOAR, in which Laurel says:
   "The first part of the Espejo was translated into English in 1578. The complete title (of the English version) is The mirrour of princely deedes and knighthood: wherein is shewed the worthinesse of the Knight of the Sunne, and his brother Rosicleer, sonnes to the great Emperour Trebetio: with the strange loue of the beautifull and excellent princesse Briana, and the valiant actes of other noble princes and knightes. Now newly translated out of Spanish into our vulgar English tongue, by M.T. Therefore, since Briana is the name of a human character in period literature available in English, the name Briana is registerable as an English feminine given name.
   In addition, since we now have evidence that the name Briana was known in period literature and is registerable as such, it no longer needs to be SCA compatible."
   
   Bronwen is SCA-Compatible, upheld as recently as December of 1999. Du Bois is found in "French Surnames from Paris, 1421, 1423 & 1438" by Aryanhwy merch Catmael (http://www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/paris1423surnames.html), with this spelling dated to 1421 and 1423.
   There is a possible weirdness for the combination of French and Welsh/SCA-Compatible (‘Du Bois’ and ‘Bronwen’) along with the English first name. However, without any direct prior precedent on the matter, this is a determination for Laurel to make.
   She will not allow major changes and wishes a female name.
2. Briana Bronwen Du Bois. New Device. Per chevron azure and argent, a dove displayed argent and a tree blasted and eradicated sable counterchanged.
3. Cailte Caitchairn. Name Change from Caoilte Caitchairn.
   Caoilte Caitchairn was registered on the March 1996 LOAR. At that time, Laurel Da'ud noted that Cailte was an earlier form. Indeed, Cailte is found in Irish Names, by O'Corrain and Maguire, on page 42, under the heading Cailte.
   She does not care about the gender (and is aware this is still a masculine name), and wishes to be authentic for "600-800 Irish".
4. Caitilín inghean Seáin. New Name.
   Caitilín is documented from "Index of Names in Irish Annals" by Mari Elspeth nic Bryan (http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/mari/AnnalsIndex/Feminine/all.html) and is dated to various times between 1411 and 1592. Seán is found in Irish Names by O'Corrain & Maguire, on page 163, under the header "Seaan, Seán", and lenited as Seáin.
   She wishes a female name, cares most about language/culture, and is interested in being authentic for an unspecified language/culture (presumably irish/celtic/gaelic/etc.).
   Submitted as Cailitin inghean Sean, it was changed to Caitilín inghean Seáin to match the documentation and be properly lenited.
5. Caitilín inghean Seáin. New Device. Per chevron azure and argent, in pale a wolf's head uulant and a dumbek counterchanged.
6. Citadel of the Southern Pass, Barony of the. Order Name Resubmission. Order of Arquites Australis.
   The Barony's name was registered in February 1984. This is a complete reworking of their previously returned Order name, Order of the Archers of Agincourt, which was returned by Laurel in September 2002.
   This Order name is documented with definitions from: Harry Thurston Peck, Harpers Dictionary of Classical Antiquities (1898) (http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/ptext?doc=Perseus:text:1999.04.0062). Under 'arquites', it says to look under 'sagitarii', which says "The bowmen of the Roman armies. These were generally raised by levy or furnished by the allies. The Cretan, Balearic, and Asiatic bowmen were especially celebrated." The Barony already has other Order names using 'Australis', meaning 'southern'. I would greatly appreciate any assistance the College can provide regarding this name.
7. Elia Stefansdottir. New Name.
   Elia is found in Withycombe's English Oxford Dictionary of Christian Names, on page 101 under the heading Ella, dated to 1346. Stefan is found in Geirr Bassi's The Old Norse Name, on page 15, and formed into the patronymic with the addition of -dottir, based on ibid. page 17.
   She cares most about the sound, wishes a female name.
8. Elia Stefansdottir. New Device. Per fess azure and vert, a beaver sejant erect contourny Or.
   Submitted as Per fess azure and vert, a beaver contourny Or, there does not appear to be a default posture for a beaver, so it is explicitly specified.
9. Floriana de Priego. New Name.
   Floriana is found in "16th Century Spanish Women's Names" (http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~kvs/fnames.html). de Priego is found in "Names used in Cordoba towards the end of the 15th century" (http://www.historiaviva.org/nombres/nombres_cordob15-ing.shtml).
   She cares most about language/culture, wishes a female name.
10. Lucas de Caid. New Device. Azure, a chevron and in chief two stag's heads cabossed Or.
    His name was registered in October of 2001 via the Outlands.
11. Milo Sohnovich. New Name.
    All parts of this name are documented from the online version of A Dictionary of Period Russian Names (http://www.sca.org/heraldry/paul/) by Paul Wickenden of Thanet. Milo is found under Milo, dated to 1243. Sohn is found under Son, dated to 1090. The byname is constructed according to the section on Grammar by adding 'ovich' to the end of a suitable given name (here, Sohn).
    He is interested in a male name authentic to "Slavic, before 14th C" time period and language/culture.
12. Milo Sohnovich. New Device. Per bend sinister sable and gules, three bezants in bend sinister between a crescent pendant and a scimitar bendwise reversed proper.
    Submitted as Per bend sinister sable and gules, between a decrescent, horns to center, argent and a scimitar bendwise sinister proper three bezants in bend sinister, commentors gently reminded me that the charges in the center, no matter their size, should be blazoned first.
13. Rois inghean Domhnaill. Change of Holding Name from Danette of the Outlands.
    Rois is found in "Index of Names in Irish Annals: Feminine Names" by Mari Elspeth nic Bryan (http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/mari/AnnalsIndex/). 'inghean' is 'daughter of'. Domhnaill is the lenited form of Domnall, which is found in Irish Names by O'Corrain and Maguire on page 75.
    There was some concern that this would have aural conflict with Rosie O’Donnell based on the return of Rós O’Donnell in the October 2002 LOAR, but we would like to have Laurel make this decision, as inghean may easily be signficantly different from O' (at least, so indicated the commentary).
    She cares most about the language/culture, wishes a female name, and is interested in having a name authentic for "Irish" language/culture.
14. Sveinn Grimarsson. New Device. Per chevron vair and Or, in base a raven displayed sable.
