Unto Fiachra ni Ciardhubhain, White Stag Principal Herald, and the College of Heralds of the Kingdom of the Outlands, does Andrew von Otelingen, Rampart Herald, send his greetings.
What follows is the Letter of Response for May 2013 CE, ruling on the April 2013 Letter of Presentation.
I would like to thank all of the heralds who were kind enough to provided commentary.
The following items were RETURNED for further work:
- Aedicina nic Elpin - New Name & New Device. Per pale vert and sable, an owl and on a chief urdy argent, a rose sable, barbed and seeded proper, between two oak leaves fesswise vert
- Name: This name is returned for violating SENA PN2C2 : The name elements have a temporal disparity of more than the permitted number of years. http://heraldry.sca.org/sena.html#PN2C2
- Device: Returned for lack of a name to send it up with.
- Aedicina nic Elpin - New Badge. (Fieldless) An oak leaf bendwise to sinister purpure, debruised by a caterpillar erect bendy to sinister Or and vert
- Returned for a lack of name to send it up with. Please note that this would also be returned for any and all of the following stylistic issues:
- The tertiary charge (caterpillar) is very difficult to identify.
- This is the defining instance of a caterpillar- more documentation is necessray for a defining isnstance
- The Caterpillar is barely overall: it is not debruising the leaf, is not on it, nor is it large nough to be overall.
- Returned for a lack of name to send it up with. Please note that this would also be returned for any and all of the following stylistic issues:
- Argyle McGrigour - New Device. Fusily purpure and Or and on a chief intended purpure three frets Or.
- This device is returned for identifyability and reproducability issues.
- First and foremost: It is difficult to determine the type and line of division for the chief.
- All issues would be resolved by a line across the top of the Lozengy and reversing the colors of the lozengy field division.
- Gaston de Sepulveda - New Name & New Device. Sable, a chevron argent between three triquetra and a dragon's head cabossed Or
Return for multiple issues:- The Triquetra are thin-line heraldry and vanish at a distance. They should be significantly thincker.
- The Chevron is too high as it is mostly above the fess-line and therefore is not centered as required in the May 2011 cover letter (http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2011/05/11-05cl.html)
- The chevron is too thin to the point that it is almost a chevronelle. The submitter should note that the Chevron is the Primary Charge in this device NOT the dragons head.
- Jajiradai Jörgensen - New Name & New Device. Per pale vert and sable, a stag's head cabossed, in chief two arrows to dexter to sinister, in base a crescent moon Or.
- Name: Returned for lack of a compatalbe structure. Please see consult the following links to determine a compatable retions and periods:
- Device: Returned for lack of a name.
- Kolgrim Olafsson - New Device. Per bend sinister gules and sable, a valknut Or
- Return for Conflict with (Fieldless) A valknut Or. [Thorhalla Carlsdottir Bröberg, LOAR 12/1991]. One difference for changingt he field.
- When re-submitting, please consider the 2008 precedent: "This device is returned for a redraw of the valknuts. For purposes of SCA heraldry, a valknut is three voided triangles interlaced." [Dearbháil inghean Léoid, LOAR 01/2008]
The following items were PENDED for further Discussion:
- Elizabeth of Saint Edmundsbury - New Device. Per chevron azure and argent, three mullets and a rose counterchanged
- Pended for 30 days for a Re-Draw.
The following items were forwarded to Laurel Sovereign for final determination:
- Argyle McGrigour - Name. (See Returns for Device)
- Atia Quirina - Name & Device. Or, a dragon couchant to sinister purpure and on a chief vert, three eggs argent.
- Belinda Froste - Name & Device. Vert, a fleur-de-lys argent within five bees in anulo heads to center proper.
- Faolan Ó Lacháin of Galway - Badge. (Fieldless) A feather argent between and conjoined to an increscent and a decrescent gules.
- Gaston de Sepulveda - Name. (See Returns for Device)
- Gnaeus Modius Varro Minisculus - Name & Device. Per chevron purpure and argent, a fox rampant and in chief two mullets of eight points within a bordure all counterchanged
- Isabetta Locke - Name & Device. Argent, a raven sable maintaining in its beak a sprig vert, on a chief embattled azure an arrow reversed argent.
- Kenton Drake - Name & Device. Gules, an octopus displayed within an annulet of rope tied in base with a square knot Or
- Kolgrim Olafsson - New Name (See Returns for Device)
- Lucia Maria da Torino - New Name
- Trevor MacRae - New Name & New Device. Vert, a chevron between two shamrocks and a wolf's head erased sinister, two and one, argent
Thus ends the May 2013 Letter of Response.
