  1. Cadfarch de Caer Penrhos. (Caerthe) New Name and Device. Per pall erminois, gules ermined Or, and pean.
Cadfarch: The client provided a printout of a web page (http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=2534), which indicates Cadfarch was a Welsh saint who died in the 6th century and whose feast day is October 24th. A quick search of my resources and the web didn't turn up any better documentation of that spelling in period.
de Caer Penrhos: "de" meaning "of" in the locative sense. The client provided a printout of a web page (http://www.castlewales.com/caer_pen.html), which says that this castle was built in 1149 in west Wales. About the closest I've got in my resources is from Reaney and Wilson, page 345, under the heading 'Penrose': "Philip de Penros 1195 P (Co). From Penrose (Cornwall, Devon)." Given that, a castle near a town called some variant of 'Penrose' seems plausible. A quick web search didn't turn up anything which better documents that spelling in that time.
The male client is interested in an authentic name for the 12th-14th Welsh language/culture.
I will be advising the client that the ermine spots should be drawn so that they don't cross the lines of division.
  2. Caerthe, Barony of. (Caerthe) New Badge. Or, a lyre vert and a bordure embattled sable.
This barony's name was registered in 1973.
  3. Charles Robert Blackstone. (al-Barran) New Name and Device. Sable, a cross raguly between four lions passant guardant Or.
Charles: Charles is found in Withycombe on page 62 dated to 1273, and in http://www.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/names/brasses/men.html dated to 1585.
Robert: Robert is found on the web page http://www.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/names/brasses/men.html. For a 16th C. reference, it's also found in http://www.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/names/eng16/eng16alpha.html.
Blackstone: The client provided a 16 page printout of the web page (http://www.dangel.net/AmericaSection/BlackstoneSection/REV.WM.BLACKSTONE.html), which describes the descendants of Reverend William Blackstone, "the first Christian inhabitant of Boston". In particular, it describes that notable as having been born in England in 1595. Bardsley's A Dictionary of English and Welsh Surnames, on page 107 under the header 'Blackston', also mentions this same person, in that spelling, as having died in 1675, and also lists a "James Blakestone, or Blackstone" dated to 1625.
This male client is interested in an authentic 16th C. English language/culture name.
  4. Margaret Hepburn of Ardrossan. (Scorpion's Hollow) New Device. Ermine, a fess cotised fleury on the outer edge azure.
Her name was registered in July 2001, through Drachenwald.
  5. Margaret Hepburn of Ardrossan. (Scorpion's Hollow) New Badge. (Fieldless) A marguerite proper charged at the center with the capital letters M and H conjoined azure.
Her name was registered in July 2001, through Drachenwald.
I'm not yet sure if there is a proper for a marguerite flower, but this one has white petals and a yellow center.
  6. Seuilla de Córdova. (Caerthe) New Name.
Seuilla de Córdova: The client provided Academy of St. Gabriel report 2500 (http://www.panix.com/~gabriel/public-bin/showfinal.cgi?2500+0), which is in response to a request from this very client. In this report, they mention Seuilla as being dated to 1353. They also mention that the locative byname "de Cordova" appears "several times in this spelling in the 15th century." The report doesn't have any accents in it at all, so it's difficult to tell if the accent is correct.
This female client is interested in a name authentic for Spanish language/culture.
  7. Simon Montgumery. (Scorpion's Hollow) New Name and Device. Per pale gules and argent, a boar rampant within a bordure crusily counterchanged.
Simon: In Black, The Surnames of Scotland, under the heading 'Preston' on page 672, there is a listing for "Sir Simon Preston of Craigmillar, provost of Edinburgh in 1557."
Montgumery: In Black, The Surnames of Scotland, under the heading 'Montgomery' on page 609, "Montgumery" is dated to 1559.
This male client is interested in a name authentic for 1570's Lowland Scotland time period and language/culture. Spot on, I'd say.
  8. Tyrfingr vonWolfsberg. (Citadel) New Name and Device. Azure, a wolf statant to sinister maintaining a sheaf of arrows inverted argent, on a chief sable fimbriated a mullet of seven points argent.
Tyrfingr: This is found on page 15 of Geirr Bassi's "The Old Norse Name."
vonWolfsberg: This is found in Brechenmacher, "Etmologisches Wuurterbuch der Deutschen Familiennamen", under the heading 'Wolfsberg", dated to 1311.
This male client has no authenticity preferences.
This device will be returned, as fimbriating a chief violates current Laurel precedent: "Chiefs may not be fimbriated. Voiding and fimbriation may only be used with simple geometric charges placed in the center of the design, by RfS VIII.3. [Gerard du Quartier, 11/01, R-Ansteorra]". Without the fimbriation, this device suffers from low contrast between the field and the chief.
