  1. Caerthe, Barony of. New Badge. Or, a lyre vert and a bordure embattled sable.
This barony's name was registered in 1973.
  2. Charles Robert Blackstone. Name Resubmission.
Laurel returned his previous submission, Charles Roberts, in December of 1999 for conflict. Charles is found, dated to 1585, on http://www.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/names/brasses/men.html. Robert is found in http://www.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/names/eng16/eng16alpha.html Bardsley's A Dictionary of English and Welsh Surnames, on page 107 under the header 'Blackston' lists a "James Blakestone, or Blackstone" dated to 1625. This male client marked on the forms an interest in an authentic 16th C. English language/culture name, but upon consultation said that he truly prefers to keep the double given names.
  3. Charles Robert Blackstone. New Device. Sable, a cross raguly between four lions passant guardant Or.
  4. Margaret Hepburn of Ardrossan. New Device. Ermine, a fess cotised fleury on the outer edge azure.
Her name was registered in July 2001, via Drachenwald. In commentary, the following precedent from Elsbeth (Roiberd Mor Barra, 05/00), was cited: "... we know of no examples of cotising where only one side of the cotises have a special line of division." The submitter pointed out that page 188 of Neubecker's Heraldry: Sources, Symbols, and Meaning shows this motif as belonging to Lower Alsace. (this was the inspiration for her arms)
  5. Margaret Hepburn of Ardrossan. New Badge. (Fieldless) A marguerite proper charged at the center with the capital letters M and H conjoined azure.
Her name was registered in July 2001, via Drachenwald. This was submitted as a "marguerite proper", and the precedent of Da'ud (Ardena Wildflower, 9/94) supports the proper of daisies as "argent seeded Or". However, upon perusal of the online O&A, I found marguerites and similar flowers blazoned both with explicit tinctures (including a 9/97 registration of "argent, seeded Or") and as "proper". Given this mishmash, I request that Laurel revisit this "proper" and/or make some reblazons. The submitter obviously prefers to keep the canting term "marguerite", but is fine with explicitly blazoning the tinctures. Commentary was made at the meeting regarding the use of the letters. All precedent I could find on the matter (going back to Wilhelm) indicated that the ban was upon single letters/monograms - this item has the letters upon another charge, which seems to avoid that trouble. Of course, the conjoining of the two letters may be a separate issue.
  6. Seuilla de Cordoba. New Name.
The client provided Academy of St. Gabriel report 2500 (http://www.panix.com/~gabriel/public-bin/showfinal.cgi?2500+0), which is in response to a request from this very client. In this report, they mention Seuilla as being dated to 1353. They also mention that the locative byname "de Cordoba" appears "several times in this spelling in the 15th century". (The source is Juliana's 15th C. article (http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/juliana/isabella/) This female client is interested in a name authentic for Spanish language/culture. Submitted as Seuilla de Córdoba, it was changed in kingdom to match the submitted documentation.
  7. Simon Montgumery. New Name.
Black, The Surnames of Scotland, under the heading 'Preston' on page 672, lists "Sir Simon Preston of Craigmillar, provost of Edinburgh in 1557." Black, The Surnames of Scotland, under the heading 'Montgomery' on page 609, dates "Montgumery" to 1559. This male client is interested in a name authentic for 1570's Lowland Scotland time period and language/culture. "Spot on, I'd say."
  8. Simon Montgumery. New Device. Per pale gules and argent, a boar rampant within a bordure crusily counterchanged.
  9. Tyrfingr von Wolfsberg. New Name.
Geirr Bassi's "The Old Norse Name" lists Tyrfingr on page 15. Brechenmacher's Etmologisches Wuurterbuch der Deutschen Familiennamen lists Wolfsberg under the heading 'Wolfsberg", dated to 1311. This male client has no authenticity preferences.
